The program came after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration had written an executive order to revive American shipbuilding. This directive includes eight measures, including higher costs for Chinese-built ships and cranes arriving at American ports.

The former Biden administration had charged China, the world’s largest manufacturer of container ships, with implementing unfair measures to establish control over the shipping and logistics industries. However, China disputes these accusations, calling the U.S. assertions a diversion of its failings.
